Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Samsung Construction and Trade Corporation from the Republic of Korea.
The agreement, backed by the leadership of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and MMRDA Chairman, aims to set the stage for the development of a Smart City/Growth Centre in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), a press release said on Sunday.
The five-year MoU encompasses a strategic collaboration focusing on Green Energy Solutions, Off-Site Construction Technology, Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI). MMRDA's vision for the sustainable future of the MMR will be bolstered by the efficient transfer of knowledge and collaboration with Samsung C & T. The collaboration seeks to enhance the quality of life in the region by implementing smart infrastructure and technology-driven logistics.
The agreement is expected to contribute significantly to the realization of visionary goals for smart and sustainable development, setting an example globally by incorporating proficient practices. The collaboration will harness IoT and AI to elevate urban infrastructure, implement modern construction techniques, and establish data centers for effective data management. Green Energy Solutions will address the energy requirements of the MMR, while smart logistics powered by technology will redefine the dynamics of logistics in the region, the release said.

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA, outlined the holistic vision for sustainable development, emphasizing the added value brought by the MoU signed at the World Economic Forum in Davos 2024.
Hyuk Shin, Head of Urban Biz at Samsung Construction & Trade Corporation, highlighted the importance of collaboration for achieving sustainability goals. The MoU is anticipated to play a crucial role in developing smart cities with a focus on sustainability and finding efficient solutions to emerging challenges through mutual cooperation.
