Mumbai: 3 held for vandalism outside Gunaratna Sadavarte's home granted bail

Three individuals who were previously arrested in connection with the attack on the car of Anti-reservation advocate Gunaratna Sadarvarte in Mumbai have been released on bail. It was alleged that these men vandalised the advocate's vehicle as a protest against his stance on the Maratha reservation issue, according to a report in ANI.

Mumbai police reported that out of the four accused individuals, three were apprehended, while one remains at large.

Earlier, DCP Prashant Kadam stated that an FIR had been filed against four individuals for damaging Adv Gunaratna Sadarvarte's car. "FIR was registered against four people for vandalising the car of Adv. Sadavarte outside his residence in the Bhoiwada Police Station area. Three accused involved in the vandalism have already been arrested, and one who live-streamed the incident on Facebook is still wanted. We are actively searching for him. The arrested individuals will be brought before the court shortly," DCP Kadam was quoted as saying by ANI.

Since the alleged offences were bailable, and the accused were willing to post bail, they were granted their release.

Advocate Sadavarte, however, remains resolute in his commitment to advocating for the rights of students in the open category. He declared, "As long as there is blood in my veins, I will fight for the rights of students in the open category. I won't allow the country to be divided over caste. We say 'Jai Sri Ram,' we say 'Vande Mataram'... My vehicles were vandalized today. I may face danger, but I won't step back. I won't be intimidated," Sadavarte affirmed during an interview with reporters in Mumbai.

The activists of Maratha Kranti Morcha too reached the Bhoiwada Police station and protested.

Meanwhile, Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil has initiated a new hunger strike in Jalna after the 40-day deadline given to the state government for announcing the reservation had lapsed. Jarange Patil stated that the community would intensify its protest, including chain hunger strikes and candle marches until their demands are met. The Maratha community has been advocating for its inclusion in the state's OBC list.

Earlier on October 19, a man from Jalna district, who came to Mumbai for the cause, allegedly died by suicide. He allegedly had hung himself with a rope under the Western Express Highway in the Bandra area of the city.
