A 68-year-old man, Subhash Pundalik Borade, was allegedly beaten to death over a parking dispute at Kandivli on Saturday. Borade succumbed to his injuries at the hospital where he was admitted after the scuffle.

According to police sources, Asha Borade, 57, the deceased's wife, was also allegedly beaten up by the accused, Rajesh Dinesh Patil, 47. Borade resided at Asha Mahal, a row house in Neelkanth Nagar of Kandivli West along with Asha, a doctor, and their son Swapnil, 37.

Asha told the police that part of their row house had been rented out by them to a courier service. On Friday, she noticed that the security guard of the courier service, Ranjan Kumar, was engaged in an argument with Patil, their neighbour, as he had parked his vehicle in front of their gate.

She immediately called her husband who was not at home at the time and informed him about the fight. Borade then returned home and took Kumar to the Charkop police station to file a complaint against Patil. The police registered a case of non-cognisable offence.

On returning from the police station in the evening, Borade approached Patil to confront him about the dispute with the security guard. However, the latter allegedly started abusing him and pushed him down. Borade got to his feet and dialled 100 but he lost his balance and fell down again, losing consciousness.

"After Swapnil saw his father fall, he rushed him to Oscar hospital but the senior citizen eventually succumbed to his injuries during treatment in the wee hours of Saturday," an officer said. Senior Inspector Manohar Shinde of Charkop police station said, "On the complaint of Asha, we registered a case and arrested Patil under Section 304 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code."
