Mumbai cops save woman headed to beach to kill herself

In well co-ordinated effort, the Malvani police find the woman before she could drown herself off Aksa beach on Tuesday

The Mumbai police, on Tuesday evening, saved the life of 23-year-old woman who was heading to Aksa beach to end her life by jumping in the sea. The rescue followed a very well-coordinaed effort by the police.

The woman, a resident of Bhandup, lives with her in-laws. However, owing to personal issues in the house, she was angry and frustrated. Her parents and brothers live in Kandivli.

At 3.30pm on Tuesday, the woman messaged her brother that she was going to Aksa beach to end her life. This scared the brother and when he repeatedly tried to call her, her phone was showing switched off. He was on his way to the police station when he met a friend, PSI Deepak Hinde who works with the zone 11 DCP office. PSI Hinde immediately alerted Malvani police station. Inspector Rajane of Malvani police station immediately informed the staff to be on alert at both Aksa and Marve beaches.

Aksa beach is at a long distance from Bhandup, so cops knew they had time and the woman would definitely take a while to reach. Meanwhile, the woman's mobile phone was continuously switched off so her location could not be traced. The cops were also monitoring live CCTV footage at the police station while other cops were patrolling both beaches with pictures of the woman

Around 7.30, an officer API Kadam found the woman rushing towards the sea. Officer Kadam ran towards her and caught her. The woman was handed back to her family.
