Vaibhav Hariharan works with audit firm EY and wants to stick to the job for the time being
Vaibhav Hariharan of Dombivli has ranked second in the Chartered Accountancy exam whose result was declared on Monday. Son of a retired banker, A Hariharan, and teacher mother, Vani, Vaibhav always wanted to become a CA and all his efforts were directed towards it.
Vaibhav, 22, said he was confident of clearing the exam but bagging the all-India second position was certainly a surprise. An alumnus of R A Podar college in Matunga, he had topped the Mumbai University's BCom exam with 90 per cent. He excelled in studies throughout, amassing 96 per cent in Class XII and 99.6 per cent in Class X.
In CA exam too, Vaibhav got 601 out of 800. "The paper was tougher, compared to earlier attempts but I was sure of clearing. But a single-digit rank was really a surprise," shared Vaibhav while accepting wishes from everyone he knows, "Once-in-a-life experience it is," he said.
Despite the well-deserved attention, Vaibhav also stuck to his work commitments. He has been working with audit firm EY. He started his articleship, required in CA preparations, at their Dadar office in 2017 and was later absorbed as a full-time employee. Even while working, Vaibhav said, he managed to study for long hours.
