A fire tore through scrap godowns at Kurla on Friday, less than 24 hours after a blaze destroyed 14 vehicles at Girgaon. The Kurla fire started a little before 4 am and was put off at 11.20 am. Officials said no one was injured in the accident that turned discarded computer parts, furniture, automobile components and clothes into ashes.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately, said officials. Around 3.45 am, fire officials said, they were alerted about a fire at a scrap godown on 3rd Gulab Galli, opposite Deluxe Hotel near Kutir Mandal. Before firefighters reached the spot, it had spread to other godowns in the vicinity. The area near LBS Road is dotted with scrap godowns.
The fire brigade declared the fire as medium or level-2. They pressed eight fire engines and six water tankers to douse it. While the fire was brought under control at 8 am, it took three more hours to be extinguished. Fire brigade officials said the blaze also damaged electric wiring, installations, plywood and wood in four to five one-storey units spread over 5,000 square feet. The police and fire brigade are conducting further investigations to find out the trigger, said officials.
