A cylinder exploded in a house in New Kalpana Chawl along the Western Express Highway in Vile Parle around 6 am on Tuesday. Five people were injured in the blast and have been admitted to VN Desai Hospital. A doctor at the hospital said that the condition of all victims is now stable.
The exact cause of the cylinder explosion could not be ascertained. As soon as the local residents came to know about the incident, they rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to VN Desai Hospital. The five people injured in the cylinder blast have been identified as Amar Rai, 27, Jairam Yadav, 27, Harekumar Rai, 38, Rakesh Kumar Rai, 30, and Arun Kumar Rai, 45.

In another incident, around 40 vehicles were charred in a fire in Vile Parle on Tuesday afternoon. All vehicles were scrap autos and private cars. This is the second incident in two weeks. Earlier, a fire had gutted vehicles at Girgaum.
As per information received by the disaster management department of the BMC, the fire was reported at around 4.30 pm on Tuesday below the Andheri Parle Bridge, near Sahara Hotel. The fire was confined to 20-25 scraped auto rickshaws and 15-20 scrapped private vehicles seized by the traffic police and parked under the flyover bridge. The fire was extinguished by Mumbai Fire Brigade with one small hose line.
