The Anti Extortion Cell (AEC) of Crime Branch Police arrested the accomplice of gangster Faheem Machmach from Byculla on Saturday. The accused has been identified as Aniket Unwane (29).
Machmach, who lives in Pakistan, is close to Dawood Ibrahim, a terrorist declared as a fugitive from India.
According to the AEC, the accused had come to threaten a businessman in Dongri. Five live cartridges along with firearms were seized from him, police said. The crime branch had received information that a suspect was coming near Bilmilla hotel at Ghodpadev in Byculla. The accused was arrested by setting a trap accordingly.
It has been revealed tha Unwane is in touch with Machmach. Police is investigating the matter further.

Crime branch official told mid-day, "The arrested accused Aniket Unwane was in touch with Faheem Machmach and on his behest had come with the intention of harming a South Mumbai businessman who has been arrested."
"The arrested accused was produced in the court. He will be in police custody till July 19," the official added.
