The city police on Wednesday charged a 46-year-old Mumbai hotelier and his elderly parents for allegedly abusing and emotionally torturing his wife, an official said. The hotelier from Mumbai's Worli was identified as Prahlad Advani who was charged after his wife Shahana Advani, aged 43, filed a complaint against him, reported PTI.
According to the news agency report, Shahana, in her complaint filed on June 13, accused her husband, Prahlad, his father Sundargurdas (85) and his mother Menaka (78) of extorting money from her parents and accusing her of having an extramarital affair.
Prahlad Advani runs a luxurious beach resort in Goa.
Reportedly, the Mumbai hotelier's wife Shahana claimed her husband abused her on multiple occasions and requested a Rs 5 lakh wristwatch for their wedding, which her father provided.

The PTI report added that Prahlad and his parents claimed a portion of the earnings from their father's Manali home sale in 2017. When Shahana declined, she was subjected to additional physical and mental torture.
A spokeswoman representing Prahlad Advani and his family rejected the charges. The spokesperson speaking to PTI said, "It is unfortunate that the police machinery is now being used to hold the husband and his family at ransom to settle a matrimonial discord. To date, no notice and/or summons have been received by any family member for the purpose of investigation."
The spokesperson further stated that the complainant had buried a similar complaint filed at the NM Joshi Marg police station. "We will be able to establish that the allegations are totally false and concocted," the statement adding that the complaint contained inaccurate and false statements, stated the PTI report.
