While MVA was vying for all six seats with Marathi candidates, Mahayuti had put forward four. Of five MPs, four are from MVA and one from Shinde Sena. For the first time in 20 years, the election had pivoted towards Marathi votes, with three seats contested directly between Sena UBT and Shinde Sena, with both having a Marathi base. Even the Congress had given both seats to Marathi candidates and after announcing two non-Marathi candidates in March, BJP took almost a month to decide on a Marathi candidate for the third seat. The Marathi voter percentage, too, was around 37 per cent in Mumbai. In 2004 and 2009, there were only two Marathi MPs, while in 2014 and 2019, there were four Marathi MPs.
As a result, now there are five Marathi MPs. With the exception of the Mumbai North and North East constituencies, all remaining seats witnessed battles between Marathi candidates. Piyush Goyal in Mumbai North and Mihir Kotecha in the North East were the sole non-Marathi contenders. Ravindra Waikar (Shinde Sena), Varsha Gaikwad (Congress), Arvind Sawant (Sena UBT) and Anil Desai (Sena UBT) won against their Marathi counterparts while Sanjay Patil (Sena UBT) managed a victory in Mumbai North East by defeating Mihir Kotecha (BJP). Piyush Goyal (BJP) secured Mumbai North.
In 2009 and 2014, only six candidates (50 per cent) were Marathi; in 2019, seven Marathi candidates contested in the national polls, while in 2024 there were 10 candidates. There were a few incidents of Marathi versus Gujarati. Even the BJP tried to gain Marathi votes with the entry of the MNS at the last moment which underlined the fact that the election was based on fetching Marathi votes. But the impact of MNS wasn't seen in the election.
