A 27-year-old labourer allegedly killed his co-worker and then hanged himself following a fight over a ludo game. The Sakinaka police are in the process of registering an FIR. "We received information that two people were dead and upon reaching the spot we identified the bodies to be Saddam Hussain Rafique Alam, 27, and Mohammad Ayyaz Shaikh, 19. On further investigation, it was revealed that Saddam had allegedly stabbed Ayyaz over his neck using a pair of scissors. He then hanged himself. We suspect that Saddam was mentally ill and hence took extreme steps," said a police officer.
According to the police, Saddam worked at an industrial unit and lived in a house in the Kajupada area of Kurla for over five to six months. The duo were employed as labourers and they used to make clothes. Gulam Hamid was their boss and he had allocated a small house for them to live in. "At night when Ayyaz went to the house, the duo played Ludo and then got into a petty fight which led Saddam to stab Ayyaz in the neck multiple times. He then hanged himself. Their bodies had been sent to Rajwadi for post-mortem and we will register an FIR in this matter soon," said a police officer.
"They both knew each other and lived in the apartment for over six months. This morning at 10 am the owner of the apartment noticed that both were not present at the workplace and were not answering phone calls. He then came to the place and found the door to be closed from inside. On checking the balcony he found a hanging body and informed the police. The police then barged inside by breaking the door and found two bodies. We were unaware of the incident and heard no shouting voices. Saddam was mentally unstable and had attacked someone in the area with a blade before," said a neighbour.
A relative of Ayyaz questioned the owner for allowing Ayyaz to share the same room with someone suffering from mental issues. "During lockdown, he left his education and came here with me to earn a living. He initially stayed with me, however, he then shifted to another house. On the night of February 20, he came to my place to have dinner, played with my children, and went back to his room to sleep. At 10 am I received a call and they told me that Ayyaz was dead. I am in a state of shock, he never complained about Sadam. However, his boss knew about Sadam's condition and he should not have allocated the same flat," said the relative.
