A 52-year-old convict, who absconded after jumping parole 12 years ago, has been arrested, an official told PTI on Friday. According to a PTI report, the accused, identified as Nasirali Sherali Khan, was arrested on the outskirts of Mumbai.
Khan was reportedly convicted under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act by the Mumbai sessions court in May 2010. He had received a ten-year rigorous imprisonment sentence. After being sent to the Nashik Road Central Jail, he was granted a 30-day parole in February 2011.
However, he failed to return, leading to the registration of a case against him under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) in October 2013, the report stated.
Recent information received by the Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar (MBVV) police indicated that Khan was residing with his second wife in Mira Road. Subsequently, the police set a trap and successfully arrested him on Wednesday, as disclosed by Rahul Rakh from the central crime unit of MBVV police.
