A man jailed for seven months for raping and impregnating a 13-year-old girl was granted bail on Friday after a DNA test revealed that he was not the biological father of the child.
The special court noted that while the culpability of the accused will be later decided in a trial, keeping him behind bars will serve no purpose. If kept in jail with hardened criminals his career will also get spoilt, reports The Indian Express.
A case was file in August 2020 in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai after the girl was seven months pregnant.
The girl informed her mother that she had intimate relations with the accused who she knew for two years. He had promised to marry her but later refused. A police complaint was filed after she informed her mother.

The accused pleaded not guilty and claimed that he was being falsely implicated. He said that he was told about the pregnancy only a month before the complaint was filed. He also claimed that the girl's mother had asked him to pay Rs 10 lakh.
He also said that the registration of an FIR was deliberately delayed.
The accused was granted bail on condition that he would not enter the premises of the girl's residence, among others.
