An unidentified man's severed head was found by the Kalyan Government Railway Police (GRP) in a local train in the early hours of Wednesday.
The remaining body was found along the tracks near Vithalwadi.
The GRP received a call about the head being spotted in one of the local trains at the Ambernath car shed, stated a report in Hindustan Times.
The officials found blood on the compartment's door. Another team was formed to look for the remaining body.

"Around 50 metres from the spot where the body was found, there is an electric pole. Some blood and hair of the deceased was seen on it. Prima facie, we assume that the deceased, who was travelling in the last local train towards Ambernath, was on the footboard and hit the pole. We are checking CCTV footage and identification of the body is ongoing," said ACP Sunil Patil.
