Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 surpass 50 million riders

In a significant achievement for Mumbai's Maha Mumbai Metro Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) has reached an impressive milestone in ridership numbers. From April 2, 2022, to September 24, 2023, a staggering 50,522,330 passengers have chosen the Mumbai Metro as their preferred mode of commuting, reinforcing its status as the city's favored transportation system, an official statement said on Monday.

According to the statement, notably, the adoption of the Mumbai One Card has witnessed remarkable growth and enthusiasm among commuters. Approximately 1,49,556 individuals, representing around 40 per cent of daily passengers, have opted for this convenient payment method. This shift not only enhances commuters' convenience but also contributes to a greener environment by reducing the use of paper tickets.

Within the expansive Mumbai Metro network, certain stations have emerged as bustling hubs for daily commuters. These include Gundavali, Andheri west, Anand Nagar, Dahanukar Wadi, Dahisar (East), Kandivali (West), and Borivali (West). These stations exemplify the vibrant metro transit culture of Mumbai and have become popular transit points for daily travel.

In response to the increasing demand and to further enhance passenger convenience, the Mumbai Metro Corporation Limited has introduced an additional entry gate at the Gundavali station on Line 7. This addition aims to streamline entry and exit processes, particularly during peak hours, reducing congestion and wait times for commuters.

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, CMD of MMMOCL & Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, expressed his satisfaction with the growing ridership numbers and the widespread adoption of the Mumbai One Card. He stated, "Mumbaikars are increasingly choosing the metro as their preferred mode of transportation, and witnessing a 5% growth every month is a significant achievement. It is commendable that 40 per cent of our passengers have opted for the Mumbai One Card, reducing the reliance on paper-based QR tickets. We are continuously working towards introducing various ticketing options to further enhance the convenience of our commuters."
