In a significant stride towards advancing the Mumbai to Thane metro network, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has taken crucial steps by appointing a contractor for the construction of the Mogharpada Depot in Thane. This depot will serve as a pivotal hub for Metro Routes 4 and 4A, facilitating the seamless connection from Wadala to Gaimukh with strategic stops at Ghatkopar, Mulund, Thane, and Kasarvadavali, an official statement said on Tuesday.
According to the statement, M/s. SEW-VSE (JV) L1 bidder has been selected for the Mogharpada depot construction, securing the project with the lowest bid of Rs. 9,05,00,00,000. This expansive depot will span approximately 42.25 hectares in Mogharpada and will encompass a range of essential facilities, including stabling yards, an operational control center, administrative buildings, maintenance and workshop structures, an auxiliary substation, staff quarters, and other vital infrastructure components. Among its features, the depot will house 64 stabling lines (32 present and 32 for future expansion), 10 inspection bay lines, and 10 workshop lines.
Additionally, in another significant development, MMRDA has greenlit the tender for laying a ballastless railway track connecting Mulund Fire Station to Gaimukh Station and Depot. The esteemed responsibility for this task has been entrusted to M/s. Apurvakriti Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., whose tender was accepted at a cost of Rs 121,55,91,349. Remarkably, this cost stands at 7.29 per cent less than the initial tender amount, underscoring a prudent financial management approach.
Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, I.A.S., Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA, expressed the critical importance of Mumbai Metro Routes 4 and 4A in linking two major cities within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. He emphasized the swift progress in the construction of the metro line and the urgency in expeditiously constructing the depot to make it accessible to the public at the earliest. Simultaneously, the construction of the railway track will commence in tandem with depot construction, signifying significant strides in the development of this vital transportation infrastructure.
