The Monolith was in Joggers Park for two weeks, and has left a reflective sphere in its place
The Monolith that had mysteriously appeared at Jogger's Park in Bandra has disappeared after a two-week stay. It attracted a large number of people and its origin remains a mystery. In its place, the monolith has left a reflective sphere. Local Corporator Asif Zakaria said that an Ahmedabad-based artist, who chooses to be anonymous, was behind the art to raise awareness about protecting the wildlife.
"The artist wanted a conversation around wildlife conservation and natural parks across India. The artist hopes that the sculpture inspires people to appreciate the natural beauty around us," Zakaria said.
Puzzled by the Monolith, intrigued crowds had been visiting it in Bandra. It amassed lakhs of likes on social media. The Monolith had the various latitudes and longitudes of India's national parks etched on to it. This made people deduce that it seeks to send a message about protecting wildlife.
Zakaria, said, "The Monolith's purpose is simple and clear - to promote a conversation about the natural habitats and to encourage wildlife conservation. The engravings on the sculpture manifest this in the form of coordinates of notable national parks across India."
The mysterious Monolith was first discovered in a remote canyon in Utah. Subsequently, the curious sculptures have been found in over 30 countries including Romania, France, Germany, Canada, Australia, and India. It first appeared in Ahmedabad in January this year.
