Bhimsandesh Tupe was pursuing his MD; while no suicide note has been found, his phone has been sent to forensic experts as it has a fingerprint lock

Bhimsandesh Tupe, 28, hailed from Aurangabad. He was recently on leave for six days saying his father was unwell

A 28-year-old doctor from Nair hospital was found dead in his hostel room in a suspected case of suicide. Hospital authorities and the police said the doctor, Bhimsandesh Tupe, apparently 'overdosed' on a muscle relaxant used for anesthesia.

While no suicide note has been found, the police have sent Tupe's mobile phone to forensic experts as it has a fingerprint lock.

Originally from Aurangabad, Tupe was pursuing MD at the Mumbai Central hospital. On Monday night, he went to his room 930 on the ninth floor and did not return for a long time. When his colleagues went to check on him, they found the room locked from inside. They broke open the door only to find Tupe lying unconscious. Doctors declared him dead.

Nair hospital dean Ramesh Bharmal said Tupe had been to his hometown for six days as his father was ill. "He had joined duty only yesterday [Sunday]. He also checked some patients," said the dean, denying to link his death with ragging. "Tupé was very well behaved with all colleagues, he had never made any complaints regarding ragging," said Bharmal.

Tupe's brother, Pralhad, is a doctor at Nanavati Hospital. The siblings had spoken two days before Tupe's death, said the police. They handed over the body to Pralhad after an autopsy.

Mumbai police spokesperson DCP Chaitanya S said, "We have registered an accidental death report and further investigations are on."

In May 2019, the suicide of Dr Payal Tadvi had rocked Nair hospital. The family of Tadvi, a second year student, accused three senior female doctors of making casteist remarks and driving her to take the extreme step. The doctors are out on bail.
