A first information report (FIR) has been registered at Tilak Nagar police station against Chedda Nagar Gymkhana in Chembur and parents of the bride and groom for flouting COVID-19 norms while organising a wedding function. The FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The marriage function was being conducted without permission, had over 200 people, no social distancing norms were followed and people were also seen, said BMC officials.

The FIR has been registered for violating standard operating procedures (SOP) of Marriage under IPC sections 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 269 (Negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and 34 (common intention). No arrests have been made yet.

Owing to the spike in COVID-19 cases in the state, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday informed that the coming eight days will decide whether there will be a lockdown in the state.

On Saturday, BMC fined 16,154 people for not wearing face masks at public places in Mumbai. Rs 32,30,800 were collected by the BMC during this single-day drive. Most of the people were fined at places like restaurants, theatres, gyms and clubs.
