The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has registered an offence against a drug wholesaler in Nehru Nagar police station for allegedly selling nearly two lakh vials of mephentermine sulphate, a Schedule H drug, worth Rs 4.46 crore, in the open market between February 2020 and 2022. No arrests have been made yet. As per the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, the sale of these drugs without a prescription is prohibited.

FDA officials had raided a pharmaceutical firm, Shreenath Enterprises, in Dombivli after receiving information about the illegal purchase and sale of mephentermine sulphate in December 2021. During the inquiry, officials came to know that the firm had supplied the drug to a Chembur-based firm, Jai Hind Pharma.
