A Kalina resident, who walked in his sleep, died after falling from his fourth-floor flat on Tuesday night.
The 25-year-old diamond worker lived with three others in the flat of the high-rise building in Kalina. According to police, the incident took place at around 3 am on Wednesday. He got up and started walking across his flat, while others were asleep, they said. "He opened the window, which has no grills, and fell down. He died after being rushed to a hospital," said an officer from Vakola police station.
"During the initial investigation we have found that he suffered from sleepwalking. Once or twice a month, he would get up in the middle of the night and walk across the flat," the officer said. "All of them were asleep when the incident happened. They learnt about his fall only when the curtain on the window fell on them."
The trio checked out of the open window and saw their flatmate lying on the ground in their building compound. "We have registered an accidental death report and are investigating the matter further," said Vakola police Senior Inspector Sunaina Nate.
