Keeping in mind the increased flow of commuters in local trains, it has been decided that Central and Western Railways will operate suburban services at 100 per cent level on Mumbai division of CR and WR from October 28.
The local train services were stalled completely from March 2020 owing to the Covid-19 induced lockdown. Later from June 15, 2020, railways began suburban services for essential service categories as identified by the State Government and approved by Ministry of Railways. The categories of commuters who were allowed by the State Government and approved by Ministry of Railways were subsequently enlarged in August 2021 and in recent weeks.
Presently, CR and WR are running 1,702 and 1,304 suburban services on Mumbai division of CR and WR respectively which is 95.70 per cent of its total suburban services.
