A fire that broke out in the garage area outside the Waliv police station on Sunday afternoon destroyed about 30 bikes, cars and autos which were seized by the cops in various cases. According to the police, an unknown person lit the fire, which eventually spread to the vehicles.
The cops have registered a case and are checking the CCTV footage in the area. After being informed, a fire brigade team rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.
Speaking to mid-day, senior inspector of Waliv police station, Vilas Chougule said, "Around 1 pm on Sunday the villagers alerted us about the fire, which had spread to the bikes and cars parked outside the police station. We immediately informed the fire brigade and a team rushed to the spot to douse the flames. However, more than 25 bikes have been completely burnt. Even a tempo and two cars have been reduced to ashes. The vehicles had been seized in different cases and were in our custody."
"Investigation has revealed that some unknown person started the fire. We have registered a case and are checking the CCTV footage to trace the accused," Chougule added.

However, a local said, "Few days ago a similar incident had taken place outside the police station. A bike caught fire after someone lit the same near the garage. However, we managed to extinguish it."
