Mumbai weather updates: Possibility of heavy rainfall and high tides

The weather forecast for today, July 21, indicates that Mumbai and its suburbs are likely to experience heavy rainfall, accompanied by occasional gusty winds reaching speeds of 45-55 kmph, according to BMC. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe during this period of inclement weather.

In addition to the heavy rainfall, isolated areas may witness even more intense downpours, leading to the possibility of very heavy rainfall in certain regions. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation.

High Tide Information:

Today, at 1427hrs (2:27 PM), the tide is expected to reach a height of 4.21 meters. On the next day, July 22, at 0214hrs (2:14 AM), the tide is expected to be 3.67 meters high.

Low Tide Information:

Today, July 21, at 2025hrs (8:25 PM), the tide is expected to have a height of 1.61 meters. On the next day, July 22, at 0745hrs (7:45 AM), the tide is expected to be 1.23 meters high

Tidal fluctuations can impact coastal regions, and individuals residing near water bodies are advised to be cautious during the specified tide times.

Average Rainfall Details from July 20, 2023, 0800hrs, to July 21, 2023, 0800hrs:

Central Township (CT) received an average rainfall of 27.50 mm. The Eastern Suburbs (ES) experienced an average rainfall of 29.90 mm. The Western Suburbs (WS) saw an average rainfall of 27.49 mm. The rainfall data provided above indicates the average precipitation in various parts of the city during the mentioned period.

Government issues advisory

Meanwhile, in view of continuous downpour in parts of Maharashtra and heavy rainfall warning, the state government on Thursday issued an advisory, asking people not to step out of homes unless necessary, the PTI reported.

Mumbai received an average 100 mm rainfall in 24 hours till 8 am on Thursday, while neighbouring Thane city received a whopping 213.84 mm of rainfall during that period. Some coastal districts, including Raigad and Ratnagiri, have been receiving incessant rainfall, officials said.

A massive landslide at Irshalwadi village in Raigad district has claimed the lives of at least 10 villagers and many are still feared trapped, they said.

"The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has already issued a heavy rainfall warning for some districts in the state. There has been a downpour for the last two days as well. The citizens should not venture out unnecessarily," the government said in its advisory, according to the PTI.

It also said that people should avoid crowding at the landslide site in Irshalwadi.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued an 'Orange' alert for Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Bhandara and Gondia predicting thunderstorms with lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places.
