Paan and gutkha stains continue to dominate city's infrastructure, including the newly opened Metro corridors. Recently a commuter pointed at the paan stains on a platform screen door at a station. Commuters are demanding that the authorities take strict action against the people spitting on the Metro premises.

Commuter Santosh N Jois tweeted, "Kanderpada metro station..closing gates art work by .....sad :-((( pained ...our mentality is rock bottom sadly. (sic)" He also attached a picture of the same where the stains are clearly visible.

Responding to the tweet, another commuter, Rajeev Mulik, said, "I have mentioned this earlier too, the basic problem is ownership. People who stay in Mumbai, especially a few sections, believe they are on rental basis. True Mumbaikars have to take responsibility of sensitising this issue. It's a long drawn battle.(sic)"

A commuter has also appealed to the official Twitter handle of the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Limited to ensure strict checks so that no one enters the premises with paan masala/gutkha in mouth or on body while entering.

Officials said the security staff at stations check commuters and that citizens are not allowed to carry these items. When the Metro corridors were thrown open for the public, a minister had also appealed to the commuters to not litter or engage in acts that would harm the infrastructure.
