The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) reported 318 COVID-19 cases, while the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) registered 212 cases on Wednesday.
As active COVID-19 cases in both corporations have multiplied in the last few days, the officials said that restrictions may be increased in areas that have the most number of cases.
Like other districts in Maharashtra, the PMC and the NMMC have also witnessed a surge in the number of cases from February 2021. However, in the last 10 days, the cases have multiplied in hundreds. In the last five days, the Panvel corporation added 777 cases, while the Navi Mumbai corporation added 1,050 cases, thus taking the total number of active cases to 1,110 and 2,012 respectively.
Speaking to mid-day, a health official, on condition of anonymity, said, "This trend is definitely worrying as the daily cases and active cases are rising. The only relieving thing is that the daily death toll hasn't increased in last month."
