Police ban drones, paragliders, and balloons for PM Modi's Mumbai rally

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visits to Mumbai, the Mumbai Police announced that drones, paragliders, balloons, kites, and remote-controlled microlight aircraft would not be allowed in the city. On Wednesday, PM Modi is expected to carry out a campaign roadshow in Ghatkopar, and on Friday, he will speak at a public gathering in the same city.

Under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) issued prohibitory orders from 00:01 on 15 May (Wednesday) to 24:00 on 17 May (Friday). The purpose of the prohibition is to protect public safety and avert possible security risks when PM Modi is visiting.

The directives express worries about potential terrorist or antisocial behaviour involving aircraft, which might jeopardise public security and disrupt peaceful public spaces. Disobeying valid directions from a public servant is punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for anyone who violate these directives.

In addition, traffic cops have meticulously planned for PM Modi's campaign roadshow, which will take place over 2.5 km on Wednesday in Ghatkopar. During the event, there will be closures on parts of Mahul-Ghatkopar and LBS roads from 2 pm to 10 pm. To guarantee traffic flow, other routes will be available for vehicles.
