Prithiraj Chavan slams PM Modi for his roadshow held days after Ghatkopar hoarding collapse

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for hosting a roadshow in Mumbai's Ghatkopar neighbourhood, where a recent hoarding fall killed 16 people and injured many more.

Chavan expressed his dismay, noting the inconvenience caused by the tour. "In Ghatkopar, an illegal hoarding was built and permission was not given to it. More than 16 people died after the hoarding collapsed. At the very place where this incident happened PM Modi holds his roadshow. If PM Modi had been a little sensitive he would have either changed the route of his roadshow or cancelled it...People had to face so much inconvenience," Prithviraj Chavan told ANI.

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch apprehended Bhavesh Bhide, the proprietor of Ego Media, in connection with the hoarding collapse. Bhide, the primary accused, was caught in Udaipur and is being transported back to Mumbai.

The tragic occurrence occurred on May 13 amid severe winds, killing 16 people and wounding almost 75 others.

Despite the tragedy, Ghatkopar was in a celebratory spirit on Wednesday as Prime Minister Modi held a roadshow ahead of the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha election. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also attended the occasion. The roadshow included spirited displays of local culture that demonstrated the community's support for the impending elections.

Maharashtra has 48 Lok Sabha seats, making it the second-largest state after Uttar Pradesh. The first two phases of the 2018 Lok Sabha elections took place on April 19 and 26, respectively. The third and fourth phases are set for May 7 and 13, respectively, with the following phase beginning on May 20. The vote count will take held on June 4.
