Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) workers laid siege to and pelted the official residence of agriculture minister Abdul Sattar with stones on Monday to protest his uncouth remarks about their senior leader Surpriya Sule. Sattar, who is from the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, apologised later.
Sattar's statement was made in Aurangabad in response to a media question over Sule's criticism. NCP workers gave him a 24-hour ultimatum to apologise and demanded that he be sacked.
Before the matter escalated further, the Shinde Sena also expressed regrets on behalf of the party. It said Chief Minister Eknath Shinde would interact with party leaders to prevent such incidents from reoccurring. Considering the aggression of NCP workers, security measures at the CM's residence were beefed up on Monday.

Sule did not comment on Sattar's antics, but her husband Sadanand Sule tweeted the minister's video in which he used foul language. "So the misogynistic leaders continue their tirade against Supriya and, by default, all women, who stand up to their macho behaviour and expose their character and abilities (sic)," he wrote.
"First it was go work in the kitchen and elsewhere, & now this statement by a sitting cabinet minister in Maharashtra tantamounts to giving her money- the conjecture is well established. These are the people who are legislators & claim to be part of a ânew' progressive Sarkar," he added.
"They give a damn about anyone but themselves and least of all WOMEN. Keep up the good work Supriya, more power to you and other women who expose this mindset and true character of the âelected' representatives!" he said.
