A couple was found dead at their residence in Thane city on Saturday morning. A report in PTI said that the 56-year-old man allegedly shot his 51-year-old wife. Soon after he collapsed and died, seemingly due to a heart attack. The deceased were identified as Dileep Salvi and his wife Pramila. The police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder.
The incident transpired around 10.15 pm on Friday in Yashwant Nivas building, situated in Kumbhar Ali of Kalwa, the police said.
The police reported that the tragic sequence of events began when Salvi returned home that fateful Friday night. An altercation ensued between him and his wife, escalating to a point where consumed by anger, he retrieved his revolver and discharged two fatal rounds at his wife, resulting in her instantaneous demise.
Some persons close to the Salvi family told the police that the couple's son was alerted when they saw Dileep point his revolver at his wife; however, before he could arrive at the spot, she passed away.

The police were cited in the PTI report saying that Salvi belonged to an influential family in Kalwa that his family members are involved in local politics and social activities and that a number of civic and other projects in Kalwa are named after his father late Yashwant Rama Salvi. Dileep Salvi, a builder by profession, is the brother of former Thane city mayor Ganesh Salvi.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I), Ganesh Gawade, personally visited the scene following the incident and is overseeing the comprehensive investigation into this tragedy. The bodies of the couple were subsequently transferred to a government hospital for a thorough post-mortem examination. The police are in the process of registering an official offence related to this grievous incident.
Fight between Thane couple turns fatal
In another incident, a small fight between a couple ended in tragedy after a woman residing in Thane's Ghodbunder area killed herself and the couple's toddler son by jumping off the balcony of their home. The incident happened in the wee hours of Friday after the couple had a heated argument after the husband advised the deceased against travelling with their toddler on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, celebrated on August 30.
