The highly-decomposed body of a 51-year-old man was found in a flat in Thane city of Maharashtra on Sunday, civic officials told news agency PTI.
The body was found in the flat located on the top floor of a seven-storey building in Ghodbunder Road area around 3.15 pm, they said.
The deceased man was identified as Manojkumar Bipin Gupta, an official told PTI, adding that he might have died five to six days ago in the house, where he lived alone.
"The death came to light after the man's friend repeatedly tried to call him but failed to get any response. His friend then informed the police, who went to the place and asked the flat owner to open the house," Yasin Tadvi, chief of the local regional disaster management cell told PTI.

The police personnel then found his highly-decomposed body inside, he said.
The body was sent to a government hospital for post-mortem and a case of accidental death was registered, police told PTI.
Meanwhile, the body of a 60-year-old man was fished out on Sunday from the lake in Kamatghar area of Bhiwandi city in Thane district of Maharashtra, police told PTI.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the man, who has been identified, reported PTI.
In another incident, a 4-year-old girl was crushed to death under a cement bench in a park in Kharghar in Navi Mumbai, a police official told PTI on Sunday.
The incident took place on Saturday afternoon when Brija Vishwakarma had gone to the park with her father, he said.
"Just as she was about to sit on a bench, she slipped and fell and the bench, which was broken, loose and in a rundown condition, toppled and crushed her. Her father took her to a hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival," the official told PTI.
An accidental death case has been registered and probe into all angles, including negligence, is underway, the official told PTI.
A 13-year-old boy drowned at Pandavkada waterfall in Kharghar area of Navi Mumbai on Sunday during an outing, police told PTI.
The incident occurred amid a ban on visiting this waterfall during the monsoon, they said.
"The boy, identified as Harsh Gautam, was at the waterfall with some men when he slipped into the water and drowned. After the incident, local fire brigade personnel were alerted and his body was fished out," an official of Kharghar police station told PTI.
The body was sent to a government hospital for postmortem and a case of accidental death was registered, he told PTI, adding that the police are investigating the incident.
