MLA Jitendra Awhad on Friday accused Mumbra API Krupali Borse of involvement in an alleged MHADA-MMRDA housing scam. His claims followed mid-day's report on her alleged nexus with a serial mobile snatcher caught by city cops.

While talking to mid-day, the MLA claimed that all senior officers are aware of the alleged scam in a housing project by Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

The officers also know how assistant inspector Borse of Mumbra police station suppressed the scam, Awhad alleged, adding that witnesses are ready to speak about it.

Kherwadi cops had found API Borse in the company of alleged mobile snatcher Sabir Sher Ali Sayyed, 29, in a five-star hotel in Powai earlier this month. They
had sought her help in catching Sayyed, who hails from Mumbra.

The allegations

Awhad, a legislator from Mumbra, also posted on Twitter (now X) about Borse on Friday. "The same woman officer had suppressed a MHADA-MMRDA housing scam in Mumbra by tampering with the evidence. Big persons were involved in the scam and they were all in touch with the officer. All details of the scam are available on a pen drive the officer has, as she has torn down all the documents. The person, who first gave her Rs 50 lakh and later Rs 2.5 crore, is ready to come forward and talk about the scam in front of any investigating agency."

He added, "Around 50 per cent of the houses allotted across Thane were given to bogus persons. But everyone is claiming that they have been instructed by
the commissioner. If every officer is going to take money, how will there be an investigation."

When contacted by mid-day, Awhad said, "Everything I wrote in the tweet is true, but there won't be any inquiry as many people are involved in the multi-crore scam." However, he refused to divulge the name of top officers at the Thane police commissionerate who are allegedly involved in the scam.

The thief nexus probe

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Ganesh Gawde completed the departmental enquiry into API Borse and her alleged links with Sayyed on Friday. The final report hasn't been submitted to the commissioner yet.

During the enquiry, cops recorded the statement of the officer, the hotel staff and others, sources said.
