A birthday trip cost four friends their life in Badlapur's Kondeshwar Shiva temple on Friday afternoon.
All four stepped into the pond of the temple for a swim, but drowned in the process, said Anita Jawanjal, the chief of the District Disaster Control Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation according. The Kulgam Police has registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the matter.

According to police officials, six friends Prateek Hate (19), Swayam Manjarekar (18), Suraj Salwe (19), Leenas Ucchapawar (19) had gone together to celebrate their friend Akash Zinga's birthday (19). The sixth person is yet to be identified.

After cutting the cake, all friends decided to go on a swim in the pond adjacent to the temple. When they ventured into waters all of them started drowning. Prateek and amother friend tried to save them, but their efforts went in vain. Later, with the help of local citizens the deceased were sent to Kami Rural Hospital, Badlapur.
