Police have arrested a 27-year-old Thane woman for allegedly abetting the suicide of her teenage stepdaughter in Maharashtra's Thane district, an official said on Wednesday, reported news agency PTI.
The Thane woman, resident of Ambadi Naka in Bhiwandi, used to harass the 15-year-old girl mentally and physically, Ganeshpuri police station inspector D T Sonke told PTI.
The girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house on Monday evening, he said, reported PTI.
After being alerted, police rushed to the spot and sent the body for postmortem, reported PTI.

Based on a complaint by the victim's father, who is an auto-rickshaw driver, the woman was arrested on Tuesday and booked under Indian Penal Code section 306 (abetment of suicide), the official said.
In another case, the police in Maharashtra's Thane city arrested a 24-year-old for allegedly stealing laptops worth Rs 14 lakh, which he was to deliver to godowns of a logistics company in Gujarat, an official said on Tuesday, reported PTI.
The police apprehended the accused, Mushrif Khan (24), during an all-out operation on Monday based on a complaint lodged by a transporter, senior inspector Nishikant Vishwakar of the Kongaon police station in Bhiwandi division said, reported PTI.
Khan was entrusted 21 laptops worth Rs 14 lakh from a logistics company's godown in Bhiwandi to be delivered to godowns in Baroda and Ahmedabad in Gujarat on May 7, he said, reported PTI.
A police team from Bhiwandi spotted the accused during an all-out operation, questioned him and recovered some of the stolen laptops, the official said.
Meanwhile, the police in Maharashtra's Thane district have arrested a man from Delhi in connection with a 27-year-old murder case, an official said, reported PTI.
Based on a tip-off, the accused, Mewalal alias Pannalal Murat Chouhan (52), was apprehended from Swarup Nagar in Delhi on Sunday, assistant commissioner of police (Crime) Madan Ballal told PTI.
As per case details, Chouhan and two other accused attacked and killed Dharamnath Ramshankar Pandey following a petty quarrel in Bhayander on October 5, 1997, he said, reported PTI.
A case of murder was registered with the Bhayander police station, and one of the accused, Vjyasngh Sriramshigh Chouhan, was arrested on the same day, while the others had remained absconding since then, the official said, reported PTI.
The police received information about Chouhan's whereabouts in Delhi and arrested him, he said.
The police are now on the hunt for the third accused, Ramdular Pal, the official said.
