Maharashtra Chief Minister (CM) Uddhav Thackeray recently wrote to Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi seeking that youth above 25 years of age should also be vaccinated for COVID-19. He also demanded an immediate supply of 1.5 crore vaccine doses to vaccinate six most affected districts, including Mumbai and Thane.

Earlier, Modi had gladly accepted Thackeray's suggestion for vaccinating all above 45 years of age. The CM thanked Modi for approving of his advice.

"Youth is largely infected. They go to work and they can be protected if they get vaccinated at the earliest," Thackeray said in a letter to the PM on Monday.

In the letter, the CM gave Modi all relevant information of vaccination, treatment, curbs and weekend lockdown imposed in order to break the chain of infection.

He said the state needed extra 1.5 crore doses for vaccinating citizens in Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Nashik, Aurangabad and Nagpur districts where there is a huge in cases. "We promise to conclude vaccination of the people above 45 years of age in flat three weeks, if our demand for extra doses is met urgently" he said, adding that collaboration between the state and Centre can help Maharashtra tide over a serious health crisis.
