Around 20 per cent of the total strength of Navi Mumbai police, who have been in the same post for more than five years, have been transferred. A majority of the transferred personnel belong to the constabulary and 47 are assistant sub-inspectors.
The transfers were effected following state government orders and more are likely to take place next week.
The Maharashtra government in its latest Government Resolution (GR) capped general transfers in all departments at 25 per cent in the current financial year. It has also directed various departments to prioritise those employees whose transfers are due or who have completed the tenure in their existing post.
The GR issued on Thursday said that the departments will have to complete 25 per cent general transfers by August 9. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no transfers had taken place and even now they have been allowed in a minimal manner.

"These transfers are of around 20 per cent of the full force. There are many who are at the same police station or post for more than eight years" said a senior officer on condition of anonymity.
