Amid the ongoing 'who is the real Shiv Sena' debate, Ashish Shelar, the Mumbai head of Bharatiya Janata Party and ex-president of the Mumbai Cricket Association has said that Uddhav Thackeray and Aaditya Thackeray are deserting preachings of Balasaheb Thackeray.
In an exclusive interview with mid-day, Shelar said the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena is foolish to be claiming that they are 'correct' even after majority of its own party members deserted them citing flawed leadership.

When asked about the BJP's involvement in the Shiv Sena rift, Shelar said, "BJP has no role. This is the revolt against the Thackerays and the Shiv Sena, this is the revolt against the party president and the Shiv Sena."
Talking about the 'real Shiv Sena', Shelar said, "If you look at good governance, welfare work, Hindutva, the preachings of Balasaheb Thackeray ji are actually being followed by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ji and his people. Unfortunately, Uddhav ji and Aaditya ki are deserting Balasaheb ji's preachings."
The BJP and Shiv Sena are loggerheads ever since the Uddhav Thackeray-led government parted ways with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and formed the government in Maharashtra joining hands with the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the year 2019.
