Vijay Wadettiwar: Why agencies like ED, CBI fail to nab accused in paper leak incidents

Senior Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar trained his guns at the central probe agencies on Tuesday and sought answers as to why "efficient" agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation failed to nab the persons involved in leaking papers of recruitment examinations conducted by the government.

The Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly also targetted the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government over the paper leak incidents. He asked the government to undertake measures to curb malpractices like paper leaks. stated a PTI report.

The Congress leader, in his statement, asked, "After the talathi recruitment fiasco, there are instances of paper leaks in the similar hiring procedures of Mumbai police and state forest department. Why do efficient probe agencies like ED and CBI fail to nab the people behind it?"

In August this year, an examination to recruit talathis (revenue department employees) in Maharashtra was delayed due to technical reasons.

Wadettiwar slammed the Shinde-led government comprising of Shiv Sena, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Nationalist Congress Party faction headed by Ajit Pawar. He noted that a large sum of money has been used to form the government and through exam paper leaks, the leaders are filling their own coffers.

Wadettiwar, according to the PTI report, said, "It seems that a huge amount of money has been used for the formation of this government. It looks like leaking exam papers is a new way of filling their own coffers which turned empty during the formation of this dispensation."

Wadettiwar noted that in the past several months, many examinations for recruitment have been undertaken. He noted that not a single examination was conducted without a paper leak incident.

He noted that some measures are needed to put a check on such malpractices. "The state government should undertake some measures to put a check on such malpractices and conduct fresh exams for these posts," the former state minister said.

The Congress leader alleged that the government is playing with the future of youth which is desperately looking for employment. He said, "It should not go ahead and complete the recruitment when transparency in these exams is under question."
