On 31 July, the ED raided top Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut's residence in Bhandup. After the raid, Raut was detained and later placed under arrest on August 1 in connection with a money-laundering case. Raut's arrest had triggered strong reactions from the opposition parties, which also alleged misuse of central probe agencies by the BJP.
