Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal, in collaboration with the NSS Units of SNDT University and the Mumbai University organised an ‘Anti-Nuclear Peace Rally’ on Tuesday.

The rally, now in its 33rd year, aims to raise awareness about the catastrophic effects of nuclear weapons and promote global peace.

Approximately 600 students participated in the peace rally, visually representing the horrors of atomic bombs.

These students, alongside NSS volunteers, Gandhian workers, peace activists, journalists, and peace-loving citizens marched to commemorate Hiroshima Day and pledge their commitment to a nuclear-free world.

The peace march began at Azad Maidan at 2:30 pm and concluded at Hutatma Chowk at 3:30 pm. The rally ended with a pledge ceremony at 3:45 pm, where participants will commit to working towards a nuclear-free world.

The primary aim of the peace rally is to unite people globally in the promotion of peace and the elimination of nuclear weapons. The event seeks to create awareness about the destructive impact of nuclear arms and advocate for their complete disarmament.

Hiroshima Day not only honours the victims and survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki but also emphasises the importance of nuclear disarmament.

On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb, known as "Little Boy," on Hiroshima. This act resulted in the immediate deaths of tens of thousands of people and the destruction of nearly 90 per cent of the city.

The bombing of Hiroshima, followed by the bombing of Nagasaki, ultimately led to Japan's surrender and the end of World War II.
