The police recovered 12 four-wheelers from the possession of the arrested person. They suspect he might have duped several more car owners with false promises.
The arrested man was identified as Santosh Dagadu Ovhal, a resident of Dehuroad. The police said Ovhal used to approach four-wheeler owners posing as the transport vendor in Talegaon Dabhade MIDC and used to promise good monthly payments if they rented their cars to his transport agency.
"Using his method, he managed to convince several people and took their four-wheelers and for several months but did not make their monthly payments," Senior Police Inspector Nitin Kumar Gokawe of the local crime branch of the rural police said.
One Laxman Devtarase of Talegaon Dabhade had lodged a complaint against Ovhal.u00a0"After the complaint, we started investigating and arrested Ovhal from Mumbai. During investigations, we got to know that Ovhal had taken four-wheelers from their owners and later sold them to third parties and when the real owners of the four-wheelers started calling him for the payments, he went absconding," Gokawe said.u00a0
