Water shortage discussed in state assembly

The issue of acute water shortage in the city was raised by Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Girish Bapat in the state legislative assembly yesterday.


In reply to Bapat's question in the assembly, Water Resources Minister Sunil Tatkare promised to take a decision on the matter after holding a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

Bapat demanded an immediate decision on a proposal sent by the PMC to Water Resource Department that asks for 16 TMC water to be provided to the city in view of the severe shortage.

The proposal has been pending with the Water Resource Department since 2009. "Taking into consideration an increasing population and boundaries of the city, it needs water supply of 16 TMC," Bapat said.

Bapat also raised the issue of garbage management solid waste project and demanded a provision of Rs 5 crore for it.u00a0Taking note of this demand, Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Laxman Dhoble agreed to make a provision of Rs 2 crore for the solid waste management project.u00a0
