'Bhagat Singh no fighter cock'

Says the city youth wing of the MNS, reacting to a range of T-shirts that compares legendary freedom fighters with fighter cocks

T-shirts with mocking one-liners are always a hit with GenY. But the latest range of tees that compares legendry freedom fighters with fighter cocks has made the young in Pune restless.

Being put on display at Store One on Senapati Bapat Road, the messages on the T-shirts have invited the ire of MNS activists, who vandalised the mall yesterday.

According to Prashant Kanojiya, city youth wing president of the MNS, the message on these T-shirts insults legendary freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh and Subhash Chandra Bose.u00a0

Kanojiya said, "Terming our leaders who were a part of the Independence struggleu00a0 Freedom Fighter Cocks is something that we cannot tolerate. It actually makes a mockery of them."

Kanojiya added that in the same range, there are T-shirts with prints of a pair of slippers with a message below it that reads, 'Cent per cent Indian.'

Informing MiD DAY, Sachin Pawar, vice president of the MNS youth wing, said that police have seized the collection. Chatushrungi police has registered a non-cognizable offense against Fighter Cock, the manufacturers of the T-shirt and Store One for putting them on display. Investigative Officer PSI Manisha Dhamane, said "We are seeking advice of a public prosecutor on other possible sections of IPC under which we can register the case."

When contacted, Store One representative refused to comment on the issue.
