Torn apart: Rekha had gone to inquire about her brother at the police station. |
A 25-year-old woman was allegedly beaten, molested and her clothes torn off, while her mother was kicked in the stomach by drunken traffic cops and police constables attached to the Bhalswa Dairy police station on Wednesday night.
Rekha (name changed), along with her mother and father, had gone to inquire about her elder brother who was detained by the police reportedly for violating a traffic rule.
She claimed that apart from assaulting her family, the errant cops did not provide any medical help to her injured brother for more than four hours.
"I have asked the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Jahangirpuri to look into the matter," said Bundela.
Rekha's brother Madhur was detained by traffic policemen on Wednesday night near his house in the Bhalswa Dairy area. The cops were allegedly drunk and they thrashed Madhur badly after a minor argument. One of Madhur's neighbours informed his family. When they reached the spot, they took Madhur to the Bhalswa Dairy police station to report the crime by the traffic cops.
But, the whole family was shocked to find that the cops at the police station sided with the traffic cops and beat Rekha and kicked Rajni in the stomach.
Rekha's father claims that his wife Rajni is in bad shape and has held the police personnel guilty for her condition alleging they were not taken to any hospital for more then four hours after they were bashed up.
"Cops tried to stop me from meeting my brother, as they had tortured him and that was evident from his torn clothes," claimed Rekha.
The Other Side |
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West district) NS Bundela also admitted that the victims were "manhandled" by the cops but rejected the charges of molestation as "baseless." |
"We were made to stand inside the police station for more than four hours. It was only when the ACP of the area arrived there that we were sent for medical treatment at Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital. However, the cops who were drunk were not sent for any medical checks," said Rajni, Rekha's mother.
The victims also alleged that the cops threatened to involve them in false cases unless they kept quiet.
Rekha has sent e-mails, detailing her travails, to the Commissioner of Police, Delhi and Joint Commissioner. She also sent an e-mail to the National Commission for Women and the Anti-Corruption Branch.
