Wing commander (retd) Arun Laxman Deshmukh (57), who was allegedly manhandled and threatened by MLA Vinayak Nimhan and his corporator son Sunny Nimhan last week, now claims that police are deliberately not taking serious cognisance of the episode.
According to him, last Sunday, when he was at his plot in Baner to supervise the recently initiated construction of a bungalow, Nimhan and his son arrived at the spot and manhandled him, asking why he had broken the compound wall of the adjacent plot.
However, when Deshmukh reached Chatushrungi police station to file charges against the duo, police registered a Non-Cognisable (NC) complaint under sections 323, 504 and 506 of IPC.
"How can cops register an NC complaint in such a serious matter?" questioned Deshmukh.
When contacted, a senior official of Chatushrungi police station, who did not wish to be named, said, "It was a minor incident. We have taken note of it, but will not conduct a detailed inquiry."
Speaking to MiD DAY, Deshmukh said, "MLA Nimhan was angry as only the previous week Pune Municipal Corporation had given me a green signal to restart the construction work on my plot at Baner. Last year, Nimhan pressurised civic officials to serve me a stop-work notice by claiming that the land belongs to him. However, he has not been able to produce any documents to substantiate this."u00a0
