Number's game: Statistician H R Gopalakrishna andu00a0 the batting maestro, Sachin Tendulkar. |
As Sachin Tendulkar completes 20 years in cricket, a city-based statistician has unearthed two world records he can achieve today as India take on Sri Lanka.
One run required
H R Gopalakrishna (63), a former member of BCCI's statistical committee, claims that Tendulkar has an aggregate score of 4,999 runs in Test matches while batting at number 4 on home soil. One more run will make him the only batsmen in the world to score 5,000 runs under those conditions.
Today's match will be Tendulkar's 160th test, making him only the second batsman after Australia's Steve Waugh to achieve this target. "Even Sachin may not be aware of the records he is set to achieve," said Gopalakrishna. "It is my little gift to Sachin for his outstanding achievement."u00a0
ODI achievement
Gopalakrishna also unearthed two records Tendulkar has already created.
Records waiting to be made
Tendulkar is the only opening batsman in world to score an aggregate of 2000 plus runs in ODIs against three countries each Sri Lanka, Australia and Pakistan. Gopalakrishna also stated, "Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid are the only batsmen in world cricket to have ODI partnerships of 4000 plus runs with each other."
Commenting on Gopalakrishna's findings, Charu Sharma, cricket commentator said, "He is doing a great job by digging out records that even players don't know about." Added Brijesh Patel, former cricketer, "Sachin's achievement is great. He deserves such tributes."
