The love story of a teenager who eloped with his teacher to Bangalore after secretly courting her in Tamil Nadu turned sour when she was dragged back home by her family, and he accused of kidnap.

Love's labour lost: Ravi Prakash, who fell in love with his teacher, ran away with her, and began living in with the 23-year-old in Bangalore.

The love affair had kicked off after Ravi Prakash (17), a resident of Patna in Bihar, joined the diploma in computer engineering course at the Shrinivas Subriya Polytechnic College, Putturu, in Tamil Nadu's Nagapatinam district.

In his second year, Prakash got acquainted with J Shankari (23), who was his computer teacher.

"It was her passion for Hindi and English that got her close to me," Prakash claimed. Prakash was among the only two north Indian students at the institute.

To start with, he said she exchanged cell phone numbers; within three months she proposed.

Prakash told MiD DAY that they would bunk classes and visit places like Kadlur and Nagapatnam on dates.

He said that he gifted Shankari a chudi with Bihari embroidery work, among other things. "Shankari initiated me into sex with her, saying she was not just my computer teacher but also my sex teacher," he said, adding that she suggested he elope with her to Bangalore and the two live there.

About that time, Prakash's father sent him Rs 40,000 for a laptop. "I used the money to pay my house rent," he said.

Prakash and Shankari lived like man and wife at Koramangala. To meet daily expenses, Prakash got a security guard's job in Big Bazaar. Prakash told the police that all went well for about 20 days, till Shankari called her parents and told them she was in Bangalore.

The parents found their address and filed a kidnap case against Prakash in Nagapatinam.

In the meantime, Shankari's family reached Bangalore after assuring her that they would allow her to marry Prakash.

"However, they took her away, along with all the money and goods from our home," Prakash told the police.

Shankari has now switched off her cell phone.

Also, the Tamil Nadu police are now looking for Prakash.

He has finally sought help from his father, an electrical engineer in Bihar.

Then there is also the matter of his not being of age. But Prakash said, "Actually, I am 19 years old, but my birth date was forged so that I could get a job in the army."

He added that forgery was not "such a big offense" in Arunachal Pradesh, where he said he did it. "When I did it my father was working there," he said.
