With the blasts in Hyderabad making the situation in Mumbai volatile, commuters at Kurla railway station, were on edge on Monday after finding two abandoned bags, which they feared were full of explosives.
Investigations revealed a woman had left the bags in a hawker's safe-keeping for a while. But when she failed to return even after an hour, the hawker got suspicious and informed the railway police about the bags.
The woman identified as Manju Verma, who is from Kurar, had supposedly had domestic fight with her spouse and left her house.
Verma arrived at Kurla station at around 2pm on Monday and had asked a hawker to look after her belongings.u00a0
A bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) was hurriedly dispatched to the spot along with a dog squad.
Senior police inspector Shivaji Dhumal, from Kurla GRP, said, "Verma left her bag at 2 pm after which she reported back at 4.30 pm. She had initially told the hawker that she was going to buy tickets for herself but because she didn't come back in some time the hawker feared and informed the GRP."
He added, "Till the time of her arrival, the situation was tense with everyone fearing a bomb blast."
