Even though there's just one person in the bomb disposal squad who is capable of diffusing bombs, top cop says that all is well

Despite the fact that terror can strike any place and at any time, Karnataka isn't ready to counter suchu00a0 a situation.

The state has just one officer named Sukumaran in its bomb detection squad who's capable of defusing bombs.

"The bomb detection team has about 20 members, but none of them are capable of defusing bombs, except for Sukumaran.

In the 20 member bomb detection squad, onlyu00a0Sukumaran is capable of defusing bombs.


If bombs are found at more than one place, how will they be able to defuse them at one time," said a member of the bomb detection team on condition of anonymity.

To learn the technique of defusing bombs, officers are either sent to Chennai or Delhi. After the serial bomb blasts in 2008, the cops discussed of sending a few people to Chennai but it didn't materialise.


Meanwhile, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) A R Infant said, "We have formed several teams to tackle terror situations. Having all specialists in the team is a complete waste.

Also, I believe that one specialist is enough because such attacks are very rare. So there is nothing to worry about."
