Khumkala Banjade, widow of the slain domestic help of the Talwars, speaks to MiD DAY about the 'forgotten man'
Khumkala is demanding a speedy trial and she has also submitted a four-page application in the court of Special Judicial Magistrate (CBI) Preeti Singh in Ghaziabad. "No one cared to inform us that Hemraj had been killed. We only came to know about this through locals. Hemraj was a loyal servant to the Talwars, but they never called us up to inform. When my husband was declared a criminal everybody was interested to know his whereabouts. When his body was found lying on the roof, no one bothered to find out who had killed him so mercilessly.
Everybody in India is interested in getting justice for Aarushi! What about my husband?" said Khumkal
Hemraj's family also alleges that no investigating agency came to question them about anything. "We feel we have been denied justice. The couple (Talwars) ruined our life. He called us up from a PCO fifteen days before the incident.
He repeatedly told me that his life was in danger and he wanted to quit the job," Khumkal said.
She also claimed that Hemraj had told her on various occasions that he was being threatened by the Talwars. Khumkala also stated that during his visit to Nepal in December 2007, Hemraj told her that Rajesh was an influential and short-tempered man. "Rajesh Talwar rebuked him for the smallest of mistakes and had also tried to beat him up on a few occasions. He also mentioned that Rajesh threatened him not to disclose any family matters to anyone," she told MiD DAY.
"My son Pranjal is now 14 years old and we are not able to send him to school. He was suffering from multiple diseases when his father was killed and we could not even pay the medical bills; the cost was borne by my brother-in-law. My mother-in-law Krishnakala Banjade is suffering from acute tuberculosis and a huge chunk of our income goes in paying the medical bills. We are devastated by the death of my husband. I will not send Pranjal to India for any job ever," Khumkala added.
